CRISCO

Crisco is a thick, greasy shortening with a long-lasting glide, widely adopted since the 1970s as a go-to lubricant for fisting. A staple of gay culture, it should be reserved for use without latex.

Crisco was originally a vegetable cooking shortening, introduced in the early 20th century. Its affordable price, wide availability and thick texture made it a lubricant of choice in the gay community of the 1960s and 1970s, especially for fist-fucking.

Its use was so widespread that “Crisco” became, in gay slang, a direct synonym for fisting. This association marked an entire era of leather culture, even inspiring the names of legendary clubs such as Crisco Disco in New York and Crisco Club in Florence.

Important note: Crisco is a fatty substance and is not compatible with latex (condoms, sex toys), which it can weaken. It should be reserved for latex-free use, and it is harder to clean off than a water-based or silicone-based lubricant.

Today, Crisco remains a classic for those who want to reconnect with this practice as it was experienced at the origins of gay and fisting culture.
